![]() GNOME 44 has been in the experimental ("rc-buggy") repository almost as soon as it was released (many many many thanks to the hard-working Debian developers).ĭebian "Unstable" is actually a mucho stable "release" (whatever that means, as in rolling "release"). This is just a honest question, not to blame anyone for any delay here. I was under the impression that unstable would be more bleeding edge. ![]() Would like to understand why GNOME 44 is not in unstable even after 3 months. It's just that I have been using "Debian unstable" for a long time, and this is the first time that I have noticed a long delay ( maybe this happens regularly and I didn't notice it before ) for a major user visible package. I myself work on open-source projects, and I know the difficulties of getting a project released. I know that Debian works on volunteer contributions, and that I am not holding anyone accountable here. But, as a regular user of "unstable" branch, I find the long delay a bit disappointing, since I want to work on latest packages, and I signed up for Debian "unstable" only for that single reason. I don't understand all the details of how Debian functions, so "3 months" might be a very reasonable delay for those who know the internal workings of the debian release cycle. ![]() But a delay of 3 months is something that is hard to understand. Maybe, since packages in "unstable" automatically move to "testing" after a stipulated time ( if there are no issues with the package in "unstable" ), and maybe the devs wanted that to not happen till the Debian 12 release is done - or - did I get it wrong ?Įven if my above theory is correct, I understand that if the devs are busy for some major release, and Debian GNOME release gets delayed by a month. Why would adding packages to "unstable" branch affect "testing" branch. And we're discussing "unstable" branch here. I assume that by freeze, you meant the freeze for the release of Debian 12 ( bookworm ), that was released few days ago.ĭebian 12 was spawned from "testing" branch, I assume. ![]()
